8-18 October 2015

Bistrot et Café Culture

Petit Paris d’ Athènes hosts a unique festival with music, art, photography exhibitions, street art, theatre, café theatre, lectures, educational programs, and chess games. The Festival will be held from October 8-18 at the city centre, from Omonia Square and Vathi Square to Karaiskaki Square and the Athens Railway Station. The festival takes place in the “French Streets” of the city, such as Marne, Fabvier, Maison, V. Hugo, Chateaubriand, and Pierre-Jean de Béranger etc. For many years, these are the streets where the Athenian urban culture and tradition meets the cultures of immigrants, travelers, and visitors.

This initiative gave life to some of the most underprivileged areas of Athens. It quickly became a prestigious international multi-festival, with the participation of 500 artists in more than 40 selected locations (streets, squares, theaters, conservatories, schools, galleries, music and theater cafes, parks and other alternative spaces).

This year’s event, entitled “Bistrot et Café Culture”, looks for the emergence of art and philosophical thought in warm and beloved cafés and restaurants. It pays tribute to the culture of cafés of Paris, after the aftermath of WWII. The cafés, bistros, cabarets and underground music halls of the southern bank of the River Seine, became places of social interaction and artistic creation.

The long tradition of cafes and bistros inspires this year’s festival as intellectuals and artists will meet in “rendez vous sociaux” alternative cafés, such as Café de Flore, Lipp and Café des Deux Magots.
